I have also the Korg Digital Legacy Collection and there, having all the extra T1/M1 cards and waveforms expands the synth significantly. I have my M1 since 1995, got it second hand, I've put a ton of use on it, and even now I'm still surprised how warm and balanced it sounds. I would say the Triton sounds quite different and he wanted an 80's synth, or rompler, so, then good for him, the M1 is great for that, and not only that! I agree that if he would shop on ebay he would probably get a Triton rack for that money, but the M1 is a very good sounding synth, there is no real resonant filter onboard ofcourse, but I like its sound very very much.
